Like many of you, I love reading. I read for fun, to learn, and to grow. I struggle to read as much as I would like. Shiny things like social media and TV distract me. Daily life with 3 kiddos exhausts me. But when I set goals for my reading life, I find myself much more inclined to prioritize reading for at least a few minutes every day. I have been using the Goodreads app for a few years now, and they have a yearly reading challenge. You set your own goal, and it keeps track of your progress throughout the year. This past December, I was woefully behind my goal, and because of the encouragement of my Goodreads tracker I was able to exceed my goal by 3 books!
Accountability certainly helps, too, so I thought I would share with you my reading goals for 2021. I have “officially” set my goal at 30 books, which is higher than the past 4 years. I hit 29 books this past year, so I think 30 is reasonable (provided 2021 doesn’t throw any stupid curve balls like 2020 did…).
Do you ever freeze up when it’s time to choose a new book, though? I do…I have shelves full of books I’ve never read and when it comes time to pick the next one I choke–they’re all so intriguing or speak to specific concerns and how do I choooooose?! My friend Leigh Ann (who doesn’t know she’s my friend, but she is) at Intentional By Grace has created a really neat reading challenge that helped me get un-stuck. Her set-up has 3 tiers, depending on how much reading you want to do in a year. Each tier has general book categories to guide you, but you pick your own titles. For example, one category in tier 1 is “On sin or forgiveness”, so I will be reading Nancy Demoss Wolgemuth’s Choosing Forgiveness.
My last goal for my reading is that I………have promised my husband that I would not purchase any new books in 2021. I solemnly swear that I will utilize my own shelves and those of my local library to reach my reading goal this year! (I practically choked when I gave him that promise…)
What are YOUR reading goals? I would love for you to share below! I would also greatly appreciate if you’d spread the word about this blog!
